Twin Towers

The phrase Twin Towers has different connotations for readers in different parts of the globe.

Three noted skyscraper complexes are referred to as the Twin Towers, for obvious reasons:

- the former World Trade Center in New York City;
- the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur; and
- the AOL Time Warner Center in New York.

Wembley Stadium in London, England was renowned for its Twin Towers, which stood at the stadium's entrance for 80 years before being demolished during redevelopment in February 2003.

The Twin Towers was also the widely-used nickname given - prior to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks - to the basketball players Tim Duncan and David Robinson of the San Antonio Spurs, due to their great height (7'0"/2.13 m and 7'1"/2.16 m respectively.) After the attacks, the nickname dropped out of popular use.

The nickname had previously been used when the 7'0"/2.13 m Hakeem Olajuwon and the 7'4"/2.24 m Ralph Sampson played together for the Houston Rockets in the mid-1980s.

Not to be confused with the book and movie The Two Towers.

The Twin Towers was also the name of a wrestling tag team in the World Wrestling Federation in the late 1980s. It consisted of the Big Boss Man (Ray Traylor) and Akeem (One Man Gang). They were managed by Slick.nl:Twin Towers
